Two alumni appointed by governor to new Virginia SOL committee

Two Longwood alumni, Dr. Jenny Sue Glasco Flannagan ’92 and Dr. Laurie McCullough ’76, have been appointed by Virginia Secretary of Education Anne Holton to Virginia’s Standards of Learning Innovation Committee.

The new committee, which held its first meeting July 15 in Richmond, will make recommendations to the Virginia Board of Education and General Assembly on ways to further reform SOL assessments and student growth measures and encourage innovative teaching in the classroom. Members serve
for two years.

Flannagan, of Virginia Beach, is associate professor and director of Regent University’s Martinson Center for Mathematics and Science, and a member of the Longwood Foundation Board.

McCullough, who lives just outside Charlottesville in North Garden,has been executive director of the Virginia Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development since February 2013.
