Canned goods, kid activities are focus of Richmond events

Two recent alumni events sponsored by the Office of Alumni and Career Services brought out the Lancer faithful in the Richmond area.

Longwood finished sixth among the 27 colleges that competed in the third annual Alumni Charity Challenge, held Sept. 30 at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery in Richmond. The event collects canned goods for the Central Virginia Food Bank. Longwood alums contributed 601 pounds of canned food.

Some 150 alumni and family members took their chances with a rain forecast for Kids and Family Day at Huguenot Park in Chesterfield County on Sept. 26.The event included lunch catered by Chipotle, finger painting, pin the tail on Elwood and a T-shirt giveaway.

“These events were great opportunities to focus on families in the Richmond area and on our involvement in the community,” said Parks Smith ’08, director of alumni relations.
