Kennedy Center program recognizes theatre faculty

Three members of the Longwood theatre faculty received regional Meritorious Achievement Awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for their work on Longwood Theatre’s production of The Love of Three Oranges in November 2013.

Scott Chapman, Longwood’s resident scenic and lighting director, received Excellence in Design and Excellence in Production Technology awards; Pamela Arkin, who teaches acting, an Excellence in Directing award; and Leslie Cook-Day, who teaches costume design and technology, an Excellence in Design award.

Started in 1969, the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival is a national theater program involving more than 600 colleges and universities nationwide that has served as a catalyst in improving the quality of college theater in the United States. The awards received by Longwood faculty in early February were among those recognizing work in the program’s Region IV, which encompasses nine states, southern Virginia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
